Writing

Have you ever written any content or piece of text that unsettles you to the point that you want to stop and reassess your motives for writing it? I am new at creative writing and have written two such pieces. The first one titled "The Sculptor" is so gruesome and bloody that I only wrote one page of it and have not continued ever since. The second one is part of an untitled novel and taps into an area of a value system that up to now, I have not given myself the indulgence to delve deeper into. If you have experienced this in your writing, can you please share your thoughts and how you overcame it?

Think before cutting down trees!

I was taking my son to school last week on Thursday morning, as I was driving past one of the houses in my neighbourhood, I noticed that they have chopped down all the trees and plants off their property because they are building a wall in front of the house.

I found this really upsetting, some people still do not understand the benefits of having a tree.  Trees reduce soil erosion and are beneficial in ensuring that the soil retains water.

Trees are beneficial in helping to reverse the effects of global warming and the greenhouse effect by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen for us to breath
They provide shade, remember when growing up and all the children used to sit under a tree for storytelling time?
Yes I do understand that we get aliens (non-indigenous trees that deplete the soil), we get trees that are too close to structures like walls or houses and those do need to be removed.

Please think before removing trees, do they need to be removed?  Find out from your local municipality about laws and regulations about trees in surburban areas.  What is allowed or not allowed?
Let us think about the future of our planet for our children's sake.

I am currently writing a fiction book about autistic children,
It started well but I am now stuck......I need more information on the subject.

The idea is to create awareness on the topic, de-stigmatize the condition and teach the public more about autism.
I would gladly welcome any information on the topic, any medical practitioner who knows more on the subject, an institution or a home that I can visit to obtain more information.

Paper recycling

After a very long period of silence due to work.
I am blogging again in between my many other talents (work, family, studies)!
Sounds crazy, but I started collecting cardboard tissue paper holders in 2009 and I cut these shapes from them.......
Its amazing how many types of designs one can come up with using them (especially if you are studying Graphic Design).
This can help in in reducing landfill!

Stolen Magnificence

I used to be magnificenttly Tall
Moving but still, thriving, breathing
I used to live and feel the seasons
Come and Go
Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter
I knew it all, felt it all
Through the passage of time
I used to feel the rain, sunshine
Wind and the unbearable cold
I knew it all,
Felt it all

I was once magnificent, graceful and beautiful
I was once a tree,
Until someone chopped me down to make pulp

Now I have become paper to be used and thrown away
I land in trash cans to be carted away
I have lost my grace and my beauty

My magnificence was stolen
